Sarkozy's bad week

As if his marital challenges were not enough cause for concern, "Sarco the Sayan" has suddenly emerged as the most infamous accolade of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The influential French daily Le Figaro last week revealed that the French leader once worked for -- and perhaps still does, it hinted -- Israeli intelligence as a sayan (Hebrew for helper), one of the thousands of Jewish citizens of countries other than Israel who cooperate with the katsas (Mossad case-officers).

A letter dispatched to French police officials late last winter -- long before the presidential election but somehow kept secret -- revealed that Sarkozy was recruited as an Israeli spy. The French police is currently investigating documents concerning Sarkozy's alleged espionage activities on behalf of Mossad, which Le Figaro claims dated as far back as 1983. According to the author of the message, in 1978, Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin ordered the infiltration of the French ruling Gaullist Party, Union pour un Mouvement Populaire. Originally targeted were Patrick Balkany, Patrick Devedjian and Pierre Lellouche. In 1983, they recruited the "young and promising" Sarkozy, the "fourth man".

Ex-Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky describes how sayanim function in By Way Of Deception: The Making and Unmaking of a Mossad Officer. They are usually reached through relatives in Israel. An Israeli with a relative in France, for instance, might be asked to draft a letter saying the person bearing the letter represents an organisation whose main goal is to help save Jewish people in the Diaspora. Could the French relative help in any way? They perform many different roles. A car sayan, for example, running a rental car agency, could help the Mossad rent a car without having to complete the usual documentation. An apartment sayan would find accommodation without raising suspicions, a bank sayan could fund someone in the middle of the night if needs be, a doctor sayan would treat a bullet wound without reporting it to the police.

And, a political sayan ? It's rather obvious what this could mean. The sayanim are a pool of people at the ready who will keep quiet about their actions out of loyalty to "the cause", a non-risk recruitment system that draws from the millions of Jewish people outside Israel.

Such talk sends chills down spines, especially Arab and Muslim ones. Indeed, the revelation did not go unnoticed in Arab capitals or come as much of a surprise. Paris can be a sunny place for shady people. When it comes to intelligence gathering on behalf of Israel, a question mark is immediately raised on the moral calibre of the person in question. But, how does this scandal influence France's foreign and domestic politics?

It is of symbolic significance that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was on a state visit to France in the immediate aftermath of Le Figaro 's exposé -- ostensibly to discuss Iran's nuclear agenda and the Palestinian question. Proud and prickly France under its supposedly savvy new president hopes to play a more prominent role in the perplexing world of Middle Eastern politics. On Monday, Sarkozy flew to Morocco, the ancestral home of many of France's Jewry, soon after his Mossad connection was made public. There is no clear evidence that the revelation is to make France any more unpopular in the Arab world than it already is, especially not in official circles.

On the domestic front, however, there are many conflicting considerations. The Jews of France now display a touch of the vapours, in sharp contrast to the conceited triumphalism with which they greeted his election: "we are persuaded that the new president will continue eradicating anti-Israeli resistance," Sammy Ghozlan, president of the Jewish Community of Paris pontificated soon after Sarkozy's election. France is home to 500,000 Jews, mostly Sephardic Jews originally from North Africa and Mediterranean countries.

Sarkozy's own maternal grandfather Aron Mallah, hailed from Salonika, Greece, and is said to have exercised considerable influence on his grandson. Even though raised as a Roman Catholic, "Sarkozy played a critical role in moving the French government to do what is necessary to address the ill winds that threaten the largest Jewish community in Western Europe," noted David Harris, the executive director of the American Jewish Committee. Sarkozy, after all, was a political product of the predominantly Jewish elite neighbourhood of Neuilly-sur-Seine, where he long served as mayor.

France's Muslim minority was far from surprised by Le Figaro 's revelations, even though some may have feigned disappointment. Others have been more forthright. "France is not run by Frenchmen, but by lackeys of the Zionist International who control the economy," lamented Radio Islam, of militant Islamist tendencies. When Sarkozy was France's minister of interior and clamped down hard on Muslim immigrants, calling mainly Muslim rioters "scum" in a widely-publicised interview, they retaliated by calling him "Sarkozy, sale juif [dirty Jew]". Obviously there is no love lost between the five million-strong French Muslim community, the largest in Western Europe, and the French president. He has grounds for concern. He assiduously courts the Israelis. That much is known.

In the scientific annals of French politics there is a cautionary tale of pantomime. French presidents are not always what they seem. There are, however, two key observations concerning Sarkozy. One, is Sarkozy's intention of implementing a "new social contract" between employers and employees, capital and labour. This smacks of Thatcherism. His determination to force a "cultural revolution" in the collective national psyche is a trifle farcical. And unprincipled to boot. He recently introduced legislation -- in tandem with his pension cuts, calling for genetic profiling of immigrants to ensure any relatives intending to immigrate are linked genetically. The strategy appears to be to soften the blow of the social security cuts by appealing to xenophobic racism.

The state of race relations in France is an even more muddled picture than the devastating caricatures by French-African comedian Dieudonne suggest. He is notorious for playing the part of a Hassidic Jew who mimics the Nazi salute. Few politicians blame their troubles on cynical comedians, though, and Sarkozy is no exception. His fans point accusing fingers at the "irresponsible press".

The real magic starts when you power Sarkozy with his ex-model wife. She, after all, played a part in the freeing of the Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian medical doctor. She, too, is of Spanish-Jewish ancestry. But, that may be nothing but an insignificant aside. France, generally, regarded their bust-up as something of a bad joke. Unlike the Americans, the French do not take the private lives of their presidents terribly seriously. There was the late François Mitterrand, for example. Hardly anyone in all France raised an eyebrow when it transpired that he had an illegitimate daughter. The French are more concerned with the ideological orientation and political affiliation of their president and are not in the least interested in their private affairs -- at least not in any political sense.

The interesting twist, however, is that the contest between Cecilia and Nicolas Sarkozy is a comic cross between a lover's tiff and the battle of the sexes. It appears befuddled French voters are being forced to turn a blind eye to their leaders' antics. Sarkozy's divorce follows hard on the heels of the separation of France's first female presidential candidate Ségolène Royal, the "gazelle" of French politics, from her lifelong lover François Hollande barely a month after she lost the presidential race in May. Moreover, at the tender age of 19, Royal sued her father for his refusal to divorce her mother and pay alimony and child support. That was way back in 1972; barely a decade later she won the case against her father. Ironically, Royal's own mentor the late French socialist president Mitterrand was notorious for his extra-marital affairs, the most conspicuous being his love affair with Anne Pingeot and subsequent disclosure towards the end of his life that he fathered an illegitimate daughter Mazarine with her.

And, what of the voters? The latest hazard facing the French president has been his socio-economic policies. Sarkozy's showdown with the trade unions threatens to turn into a deciding moment for France. Foreign policy, too, has come under much scrutiny. France has become fanatically Atlanticist under the presidency of Sarkozy. Although, unlike US President George W Bush, Sarkozy does not make much noise about his own dubious religious convictions. The commonest criticism of Sarkozy is that he is overly conscious of his religious heritage, a trait that is not appreciated by the fanatically secular French political establishment. France is culturally the most irreligious country in Europe, itself the most secular and anti-religious of the world's continents.

For a politician acclaimed for his acumen, it is startling that Sarkozy has been tripped up by events he should have seen coming. His sagacity obviously failed him this week. Le Figaro let the cat out of the bag. And his wife, too, after shopping with Lyudmila Putin, the Russian first lady, apparently decided that she had had enough of being treated as "part of the furniture" and made their rift very public.

France is now in the awkward position of having no first lady. The 49 year- old former model, lawyer and political advisor is by no means media shy. "I gave Nicolas 20 years of my life," she told the popular French magazine Elle in a special feature which she asked for personally, despite the awkwardness of its timing. She had long complained of being politically peripheralised. Troubling as that interpretation is, it is in a way a consoling one for Sarkozy. He is now free to handle his opponents without his maverick Cecilia breathing down his neck or, on the contrary, disappearing at crucial moments.

Even with his personal life in tatters, Sarkozy is obliged to hoist the French tricoleur high in the international arena. Which flag is it to be?

Rupert Murdoch has grown the giant mammoth of a media company "The News Corporation" into one of the largest and most influential media groups in the world from a small town newspaper in Australia. Murdoch wields considerable power with his global media company and is often wooed by politicians to persuade him to favorably cover their campaigns. His empire covers television, filmed entertainment, cable network programming, book publishing, direct broadcast satellite television, magazines and newspapers operating in the United States, Australia, Continental Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia and the Pacific Basin.

Murdoch was born in Melbourne, Victoria - Australia on the 11th of March, 1931. He grew up in Australia and studied at the Oxford University in the United Kingdom. He then worked briefly at the "Daily Express" newspaper before taking the reigns from his father's (Sir Keith Murdoch) newspaper in Adelaide Australia called "the Adelaide News".

The Adelaide News was Rupert Murdochs base to launch into the global media empire he went on to create. He made the small town newspaper profitable enough to move from Adelaide and begin his continual quest to acquire companies, grow them or create them.
Murdoch acquired some of the most popular and widely read newspapers in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. His rise through the ranks often caused controversy and outrage because of his ruthless management style and desire to succeed. In an attempt to flush out the corruption, waste, overstaffing and theft that flourished in his London based operations Murdoch had to confront the workers union. His actions caused many protests and petitions against Murdoch and his companies (one magazine article gave him the nick name of "The Dirty Digger") but his commitment to cut costs and increase profits did eventually win out in the end.

In an effort to expand his television interests further in the United States Rupert Murdoch became an American citizen in 1985. Throughout the 80s his Australian listed Media company the News Corporation continued to grow rapidly, acquiring interests in newspapers, magazine, book publishing, television stations, film and more.

The rapid growth of News Corporation and expansion into satellite TV also brought massive loans. During a downturn in the early 90s Murdoch and his media empire had difficulty paying its bills. Many of his American magazine interests were sold to pay off some of the loans and things eventually turned around for Murdoch.

The slight pause in growth in the early 90s quickly ended and the media mogul continued his path of of acquisition and growth. The company owns some of the largest and most popular brands in many areas of the media industry including:

Rupert Murdoch divorced his wife (and the mother to four of his children) Anna Murdoch in 1998 after more than 30 years of marriage. He then went on to marry a member of his staff in the Asian operations (Star TV) of News Corporation. Wendi Deng is roughly 40 years younger than Murdoch. Two of his sons Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch did work in their father's company and hold important positions, until Lachlan left.

The effect that Rupert Murdoch has had on the media and entertainment industry is massive. Along the way he created an empire that has gone from strength to strength, securing positions in every important media and country. Murdoch continues to push his News Corporation company forward and is leading the way into the lucrative Chinese market, that has up until now, been out of reach for Western media companies. With his great success and power he has also created a lot of critics, but Murdoch continues to brush them all aside and is happily living his life with his young wife and is continuing to grow his global media empire.

In 2007 at the age of 76, Rupert Murdoch has showed that he is still open to change. The media mogul released an ambitious plan to to tackle the problems of global warming by making his global corporation carbon neutral. He told 47,000 employees that they will not only cut their energy use, but that the word on climate change will also be put out through his many media outlets.

Flavio Briatore (born April 12, 1950) is an Italian businessman and managing director of the Renault Formula One team.

Briatore was born in Verzuolo near Cuneo, Italy, in the Maritime Alps, from a family of elementary school teachers. He got a diploma in Land Surveying at Fassino di Busca's high school with the lowest grades. Briatore found early work as a ski instructor and restaurant manager. He opened a restaurant named Tribüla, which was Briatore's nickname and indicates someone who is prepared to undergo any trouble in order to get what he wants. The restaurant eventually closed.

Briatore next moved to Milan and worked in the Italian stock exchange. During this period, he met Luciano Benetton, founder of the Benetton clothing company. The two became friends and eventually business partners.

Briatore was involved in the bankruptcy of Paramatti, and eventually convicted on various counts of fraud in Bergamo and Milan to 4 years and 6 months of prison. To avoid imprisonment, he fled to Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands, where he kept close relations to Benetton and opened some Benetton stores.

When Benetton opened his first five stores in the United States in 1979, he appointed Briatore as director of the group's American operations.

Due to Benetton's unorthodox methods of franchising, the chain experienced a brief boom in popularity in the US. By 1989, there were eight hundred stores in the United States. Briatore, having taken a cut of each franchising agreement, became very wealthy.

As store owners began to complain of competition from other Benetton stores, the number of stores decreased to two hundreds and Briatore began to look for a new business.

Briatore attended his first Formula One race, the Australian Grand Prix, in 1988, having in the past proclaimed his lack of interest in the sport. Luciano Benetton appointed him commercial director of his Formula One team, Benetton Formula Ltd. (formerly Toleman), and when he fired the team management shortly thereafter, Briatore was promoted to managing director and set about turning Benetton into a competitive team.

He hired and quickly fired engineer John Barnard. Barnard's successor was Tom Walkinshaw, whose greatest achievement with the team was to lure young driver Michael Schumacher from the Jordan team after his first F1 race in 1991. Briatore, too, contributed to this achievement. The Times observed that Briatore knew Schumacher could be the best and built a team around him at Benetton ' that eventually beat the Williams Number 2 driver Damon Hill after 3 times world champion Ayrton Senna was killed at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Late in 1994, Briatore purchased the ailing Ligier team to acquire its stock of Renault engines. FIA regulations, however, did not permit him to own the team, so he sold it to Walkinshaw. He took on complete management of Benetton, but when Schumacher and a number of key technical staffers departed for Ferrari in 1996, the team slipped to the middle of the grid.

Briatore purchased a share of the Minardi team in 1996, but being unable to sell it to British American Tobacco, as he had hoped, he sold out to fellow owners Giancarlo Minardi and Gabriele Rumi. Benetton fired him in 1997 in favour of David Richards.

From 1998 to 2000, he sold Renault engines, re-badged them as Supertecs, to Williams, Benetton, BAR and Arrows.

In 2000, Renault announced its plans to return to Formula One with the purchase of the Benetton Formula team. Briatore returned as managing director and team principal, replacing Rocco Benetton. The team raced as Benetton-Renault in 2001 before becoming Renault F1 in 2002.

For 2003, Briatore fired race-driver Jenson Button and replaced him with Alonso. When he replaced Button the outcry was huge, but Briatore stated, 'Time will tell if I am wrong.'

Briatore also acts as manager for Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen, and formerly managed Jarno Trulli. Despite winning the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix, Trulli was dropped from Renault by Briatore and replaced by Giancarlo Fisichella.

Briatore replaced Alonso with Kovalainen for 2007, saying: "With Kovalainen, I hope to find the anti-Alonso".

Briatore has developed a diverse portfolio of business interests outside Formula 1, many of which revolve around fashion.

He created the Billionaire brand in 1998 and owns a club in Sardinia under that name. A line of Billionaire fashion and sportswear is available as well as a haute couture line, Billionaire Italian Couture. In addition to that he opened Cipriani's restaurant in Mayfair, London in 2004 and owns the pharmaceuticals company Pierrel. He also operates a Tuscan beach club and Lion in the Sun, a holiday resort in Kenya.

In 2007 he was linked to a takeover of English Championship Club, Queens Park Rangers, from a Monaco based consortium led by Gianni Paladini. On September 1, 2007 it was officially announced that Briatore (along with Bernie Ecclestone) had bought Queens Park Rangers (QPR) Football Club.

According to the Italian gossip media, Briatore is engaged to marry the 27-year-old 'Wonderbra' model Elisabetta Gregoraci.

Vladimir Putin was born on October 7, 1952 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia. He was the sole child of a factory foreman, living in a communal apartment along with several other families. As a child, he studied the martial arts with a concentration on sambo, a combination of judo and wrestling. He was chosen to study at Leningrad School 281, which prepared its students for college.

In 1970, Vladimir graduated from preparatory school and enrolled in the Leningrad University. There, he majored in studies of civil law, while also continuing his practice of martial arts. In 1974, he was the city's judo champion and graduated in 1975 with honors.

After he graduated, he was recruited by the KGB, the Soviet Union's intelligence organization. He was sent to Moscow, where he studied espionage and foreign intelligence. There, he learned the German language and was awarded a black belt in judo. After completing his studies, he was given a position in the KGB First Directorate as an agent of foreign intelligence.

In 1985, Putin was sent to Eastern Germany to live in Dresden under a fake name. He was given a false job at a German-Soviet friendship society, which had been set up by the KGB. It is believed that he was spying on NATO's member nations and recruiting new agents during this time. During his time in Germany, he was able to get an idea of Western cultures and ideas that changed his perspective of the world.

In 1990, the Soviet Union collapsed under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev. Putin returned to Russia after the KGB withdrew from reunited Germany and was highly decorated for his intelligence efforts. He was also given an administrative position at the Leningrad University, although he continued conducting intelligence gathering operations.

Putin was eventually hired as an assistant to his old professor of law, Anatoly Sobchak, who had become the chairman of the city council. When Sobchak was elected mayor of newly-renamed St. Petersburg in 1991, Vladimir was given the position of deputy mayor. During his time as deputy mayor, he helped direct foreign investors in the expansion of the city's economy and infrastructure.

In 1996, Sobchak lost his reelection campaign and left the mayoral office, along with Putin. Despite allegations and charges of corruption against Sobchak, Putin's career was not tainted. In 1997, he was given a position in the Kremlin as deputy to Pavel Borodin, the man in charge of the government's property department.

Putin put his time in the Kremlin to good use, making powerful friends and impressing his superiors. In 1998, he was appointed head of the Federal Security Service, the replacement for the KGB, by President Boris Yeltsin. In 1999, he was named prime minister by Yeltsin after numerous failures by other individuals appointed to that same office.

On December 31, 1999, Yeltsin resigned from his position before his term would end six months later. He appointed Putin as his acting successor, with the intention of ensuring that Russia entered the 21st century with a new wave of politicians who would continue reforming Russia. In the elections of March 2000, Putin won by a good margin, becoming Russia's youngest leader since Josef Stalin in 1922.

Throughout his tenure in office, Putin has been criticized for his handling of rebellions in Chechnya and Georgia, as well as the botched handling of a hostage situation that resulted in many deaths. More recently, he has been widely protested for his replacement of reimbursement for transportation and healthcare costs by cash, which many say does not fully cover the expenses. In spite of this, he has remained very open with Western countries and has implemented numerous beneficial social reforms in modern Russia, including the prosecution of the head of the Yukos oil corporation.

Tahun 2003 merupakan awal keseriusan Amerika menjalankan game politiknya. Dengan dalih memerangi terorisme serta dugaan senjata pemusnah masal, berhasil memporak-porandakan seluruh kawasan Irak. Tetapi ironisnya selama tiga tahun menduduki Irak, klaim justifikasi atas agresinya sama-sekali absurd. Irak tidak memiliki senjata pemusnah masal apapun. April 2006, Menlu Amerika Condoleezza Rice mengakui bahwa Amerika telah melakukan ribuan kesalahan besar di Irak.
Propaganda Bush kemudian terekam jelas dalam pernyataannya jika perang melawan Islam Militan diibaratkan sama seperti perang melawan Nazi dan Komunisme. Maka jika AS mundur dari Irak, sama artinya AS telah dikalahkan oleh musuh-musuh nomer wahidnya -sebuah arogansi untuk menyatan diri tak tertandingi. Beban AS setelah penyerangan ini berdampak besar bukan saja di bidang militer tetapi turut menimbulkan krisis kepercayaan rakyat terhadap pemimpinnya. Masyarakat dunia tentu menentang peperangan dengan alasan apapun terbukti dari demonstrasi yang terjadi di 300 kota pada 60 negara, yang melibatkan 10 juta orang, sebelum AS melancarkan aksinya di Irak.
Pengikut setia AS, Israel, pun tak kurang menjengkelkanya dari AS. Israel, kata Mahmud Ahmadiinejad -Preisden Iran- adalah kabilah yang tidak memiliki tanah. Pendudukannya disebagian Palestina adalah berkat dukungan Negara-negara Eropa sebagai penebusan dosa atas kekejaman yang dilakukan Nazi membantai jutaan umat Yahudi semasa Hitler. King Abdullah mengatakan “Jika demikian halnya kenapa bukan sebagian tanah Eropa atau AS yang dihadiahkan pada Israel. Kenapa Palestina yang harus menanggung dosa masa lalu Nazi?”. Berdasarkan kecurigaan politik inilah Ahmadiinejad mendukung penghapusan Negara Israel dari peta dunia. Tak ayal lagi pernyataannya ini membuat Israel geram.
Israel yang ingin keberadaannnya diakuai Negara Arab, mulai bergerak menguasai kawasan Timur Tengah. Dengan dalih melindungi dua serdadunya yang diculik kelompok Hizbullah, mereka pun menyerang Libanon. Israel mungkin saja berharap bisa membangun ‘rejim’nya di Libanon seperti yang diinginkan Ariel Sharon saat menginvansi Libanon tahun 1982 dengan membunuh sekitar 15 ribu sampai 20 ribu orang disana.
Konspirasi Amerika dan Israel belum lama ini ternyata keliru, tadinya mereka berhitung dapat melumpuhkan Hizbullah dalam hitungan hari, ternyata gagal. Israel pun menerima resolusi PBB ketika mengalami kehilangan terbesar dalam pertempurannya. Israel kehilangan 37 tank, 1 helicopter militer, dan 24 tentaranya. Kalau dijumlahkan dalam sebulan berarti mereka kehilangan 74 tank, 3 helicopter militer, 1 kapal perang, dan 116 tentara.
Perang yang terjadi di Libanon kali ini malah mendongkrak popularitas Hizbullah. Mereka mampu mengadakan perlawanan terhadap Israel selama 34 hari. Dalam perangnya Hizbullah tidak bergerak dengan tangan kosang. Hizbullah mendapat bantuan senjata dari Iran dan Suriah maskipun tidak sencanggih Israel. Israel memiliki kapal perang, helikopter militer, pesawat yang jumlahnya ribuan, tank, dan pasukan 168 personil, ini berbanding jauh dengan Hizbullah yang hanya mempunyai 3.000 personil, dengan persenjataan yang terbatas, dan kemampuan daya ledak yang sangat lemah, tetapi justru mampu mendesak Israel mundur dari Libanon.
Kekalahan yang diterima Israel dalam perang melawan Hizbullah membuat Amerika seolah kehilangan akal melumpuhkan Iran -objek utama AS dalam perang Israel-Hizbullah. Bebagai resolusi ditawarkan terkait percobaan nuklir Iran yang terus-menerus di tentang AS termasuk memberikan hak-hak surgawi bagi Iran jika Iran berkenan mengikuti petunjuk AS. Tapi rupanya Iran bukanlah sebuah negara yang mudah terbuai gombalisme politik ala AS, Dus tidak mudah lumpuh hanya dengan gertakan AS dan sekutunya.
Selain itu Kemengan pergolakan politik intern dalam dunia Islam sering di sambut berlebihan oleh AS. Sebut saja Hamas ketika kemenangannya dalam pemilu Palestina, AS menyambutnya dengan reaksi negatif. AS tidak akan melakukan negosiasi apapun jika Hamas terus menerus melakukan metode kekerasan terhadap Israel.
Didorong oleh politik exigency, pemerintah AS kurang sabar melihat proses demokrasi yang berlangsung di sejumlah negara hanya karena hasilnya kurang menguntungkan dilihat dari kepentingannya sendiri. Prosedur demokraik sendiri ternyata berkembang baik di Iran ketika Ahmadinejad terpilih menjadi presiden. Terpilihnya Ahmadinejad tentu tidak menyenangkan AS karena sikapnya (Ahmadinejad) yang amat konfrontatif
Iran dibawah kepempimpinan Mahmud Ahmadiinejad saat ini menjadi Negara paling berpengaruh di Timur Tengah. Belum lagi kemampuan pengembangan teori nuklirnya yang membuat barat ketar-ketir. Keinginan Iran dalam pengembangan nuklirnya murni untuk perdamaian, dan untuk pasokan listrik 60 juta warganya rupanya tidak diterima AS. Dengan kelicikannya AS berhasil mendesak PBB agar memberikan sangsi terhadap Iran jika masih bersikukuh dalam proyek nuklirnya. Meski negaranya mengahadapi sangsi PBB, Iran tidak menunjukan kekhawatiran sedikit pun, mereka tetap optimis dan yakin, sangsi PBB tidak akan berdampak buruk bagi perekonomian atau program nuklir yang menjadi kebanggaan Negara Iran.
Surat yang dilayangkan Ahmadiinejad terhadap Presiden AS merupakan bukti rasional atas mulut besarnya Bush berkenaan dengan kebijakan politik anehnya selama ini khususnya yang terjadi di timur tengah. Sebuah konfrensi pers di Teheran memberitakan; jika Presidan Iran ini menentang orang nomor satu AS untuk mengadakan debat publik terbuka di televisi dengan harapan dapat menemukan jalan keluar dari semua kemelut berkepanjangan ini. Ia juga meminta agar perdebatan itu tidak disensor demi kepentingan publik AS. Tetapi Gedung Putih sendiri menyatakan penolakan keinginan Ahmadiinejad pada Bush untuk melakukan debat terbuka di televisi.

Ketegasan Komunal
Apakah antara Barat (khususnya AS) dan Negara-negara Muslim memiliki kebuntuan negosiasi? Kita tidak bisa memprediksi. Tetapi mungkin kesadaran politik elegan dalam dunia Islam mampu merubah cara pandang yang prontal beralih pada perubahan taktik dan strategi yang dinamis.
AS tidak akan pernah puas dengan aksinya, posisi sentralnya di mata dunia memiliki kebijakan yang sulit dilawan sekalipun oleh institusi PBB. Dunia sudah malum dengan kedok AS beserta sekutunya tinggal ketegasan sikap negara Arab melakukan resitensi terhadap Amerika dan antek-anteknya. Jika dikehendaki sebenarnya mereka bisa melakukan embargo minyak, seperti yang pernah dilakukan Raja Faisal. Embargo ini sangat berpengaruh besar terhadap industri barat, bahkan mungkin bisa menyebabkan kelumpuhan. Iran ketika pemerintahanya di pegang Ayatullah Khomeini negaranya di embargo Eropa dan AS yang menyebabkan pendapatan perkapitanya menurun tetapi buktinya -dan hingga sekarang- Iran tetap survive bahkan keadaan ekonominya kembali stabil. Dengan kekacauan yang dilancarkan AS di beberapa negara muslim semestinya sudah menjadi pemicu rekonsiliasi antar negara Arab melawan Amerika.
Pemimpin dunia Islam untuk jangka panjang mungkin lebih membutuhkan sosok dengan visinya yang pragmatis. Bukan saja lebih terfokus pada masalah interen negaranya tetapi juga turut serta memeperbaiki citra di panggung internasional. Dunia Islam harus mampu bermain “politik cantik” jika mau membongkar kedok kemunafikan. Untuk saat ini Negara-negara Arab perlu sosok pemimpin yang memiliki wibawa untuk seluruh negri Arab.
Ketegasan politik dalam berdiplomasi tidak saja berlaku untuk negara-negara Arab mereka yang tau kelicikan negara adidaya ini hendaknya turut berperan aktif bersuara lantang di ruang international; saat ini hanya sedikit dari mereka yang telah berani menyatakan kebenaran tersebut. Dunia, kata Ahmadiinejad tidak lama lagi akan berbalik pada persatuan dan keadilan dan sesungguhnya Tuhan mampu menguasai segala sesuatu. Keselamatan bagi mereka yang mengikuti petunjuknya. Mengenal Firqah-Firqah Yahudi

B’nai B’rith adalah salah satu perkumpulan Fremasonry modern yang termaju. Perkumpulan ini merupakan sayap Freemasonry yang paling ekstrem. Prinsip dan tujuannya tidak banyak berbeda dengan organisasi induknya, Freemasonry. Pengabdiannya, pada dasarnya berupa dukungan penuh terhadap gerakan zionisme internasional.

Tanggal 13 Oktober 1843, seorang Yahudi Jerman asal Hamburg, Henry Jones, memimpin sepuluh orang Yahudi berimigrasi ke New York. Mereka memperoleh izin mendirikan sebuah perkumpulan. Sejak tahun 1865 perkumpulannya tersebut berupaya keras agar dapat eksis di Palestina. Maka pada tahun 1888 didirikanlah perkumpulan Yahudi pertama, B’nai B’rith. Istilah B’nai B’rith sendiri berasal dari bahasa Ibrani. Di antara tokoh-tokohnya yang terkenal adalah Nahum Sococlov, Dasnicov, Cahim Nachman, David Yellin, Meir Berlin, Chaim Weizmann, dan Jad Framkin.

Mereka berjuang mendirikan semacam koloni kecil Yahudi di Palestina. Perkampungan Yahudi pertama yang mereka dirikan adalah perkampungan Mutsa di dekat al-Quds (Jerussalem) pada tahun 1894. Dengan demikian mereka telah membentuk cikal bakal negeri Israel yang eksis sekarang ini.

Tokoh dunia psikologi yang terkenal dengan teori psikoanalisisnya, Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), yang juga adalah seorang Yahudi, turut bergabung ke dalam B’nai B’rith. Bahkan ia dikenal sebagai orang yang aktif menghadiri berbagai pertemuan organisasi ini.

Pada tahun 1913 M, sebuah perkumpulan yang bertujuan memerangi gerakan pencemaran, penghinaan, dan perusakan terhadap nama baik. Yahudi pub didirikan. Philip Kluznick dipilih menjadi ketuanya yang pertama. Ia ditunjuk sebagai Utusan Amerika Serikat (AS) untuk Majelis Umum PBB pada masa pemerintahan Presiden AS, Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower.

John Foster Dulles, Menteri Luar Negeri AS tahun 1958, adalah seorang Kristen prostestan yang turut hadir dalam pertemuan yang diselenggarakan oleh B’nai B’rith pada tanggal 8 Mei 1956. Dalam pertemuan tersebut ia mengatakan, "Peradaban Barat, pada dasarnya tegak di atas landasan keyakinan Yahudi mengenai tabiat rohani manusia. Karena itu negara-negara Barat harus mengerti tentang kewajiban membela peradaban yang berpusat di Israel ini dengan sungguh-sungguh." Para Presiden AS sering terlihat memuji segala kegiatan dan aktivitas organisasi ini.

Pemikiran dan Doktrin

B’nai B’rith memiliki sejumlah slogan yang biasa diketengahkan, seperti:

Cinta, kebaikan, dan bekerja mewujudkan kesejahteraan umat manusia.
Menolong orang-orang yang lemah, lanjut usia, dan yang memerlukan pertolongan, serta membangun rumah-rumah sakit.
Membangun asrama-asrama di seluruh penjuru dunia.
Membela hak asasi manusia.
Mencegah penghinaan terhadap Yahudi.
Menumbuhkan rasa kasih sayang terhadap sesama Yahudi yang tertindas.
Mengembangkan tukar-menukar kebudayaan dan keagamaan bagi pelajar dan mahasiswa Yahudi melalui The Hillel Foundation.
Memberikan pengarahan di bidang pelatihan ketrampilan.
Membuka dialog dengan pejabat-pejabat peerintahan mengenai masalah hak sipil, imigrasi, dan penindasan.

Namun di balik slogan-slogan tersebut, sebenarnya ada agenda dan tujuan lain yang berusaha direalisasikan, yaitu :

Mereka sadar bahwa diri mereka adalah orang Yahudi. Karenanya satu-satunya tugas mereka dalam gerakan ini adalah mengangkat bangsa Yahudi agar menguasai dunia.
Mendukung gerakan Freemasonry internasional dalam seluruh rencana dan programnya.
Mendukung eksistensi Israel di Palestina dan mendorong orang-orang Yahudi agar berimigrasi ke sana.
Berusaha menghancurkan eksistensi moral para pemimpin agama dan pemimpin nasional selain Yahudi.
Bekerjasama dengan Freemasonry dan Zionisme dalam menyulut api peperangan dan fitnah. Karena itu mereka telah memainkan peranan yang sangat besar dalam Perang Dunia I.
Menyerang Hitler dan pemerintahannya ketika ia tampil memegang kendali kekuasaan.
Peranan mereka sangat berbahaya dalam prolog Perang Dunia II.
Menghimpun berita dan menduduki pusat-pusat kekuasaan yang sangat sensistif di beberapa negara. Di samping itu mereka juga memiliki organisasi bawah tanah dalam negeri dan jaringan kaki tangannya.
Menembus jauh ke dalam struktur kehidupan Amerika dan Inggris. Bahkan mampu mengendalikan urusan sosial, politik, dan ekonomi kedua negara di atas.
Menggunakan harta kekayaan, seks, dan propaganda terencana guna mencapai tujuan yang dikehendaki.
Membendung setiap usaha menyaingi Yahudi dan menculik para penulis yang dianggap merusak citra mereka, sehingga semua orang tunduk terhadap "kehebatan" Yahudi.
Dalam pertemuan yang diselenggarakan di kota Bassel, Swiss, pada tahun 1897, ketua delegasi B’nai B’rith mengatakan, "Pada suatu masa pasti akan datang di mana orang-orang Masehi sendiri akan segera meminta kepada Yahudi untuk menerima kendali kekuasaan."
B’nai B’rith mendapatkan kursi delegasi di PBB melalui keanggotaannya dalam Bidang Koordinasi Organisasi-organisasi Yahudi.
Pimpinan puncak organisasi dipilih setiap tahun. Hal itu ditentukan oleh Dewan Tertinggi yang terdiri dari utusan daerah (lokal). Ada pula komisi organisasi dan administrasi, serta para direktur yang tururt dalam administrasi organisasi.

Akar Pemikiran dan Sifat Ideologinya
B’nai B’rith merupakan sebuah organisasi Yahudi yang poros akidah dan pemikirannya adalah Talmud. Sedangkan landasan pokok operasional untuk mencapai berbagai tujuannya adalah Protokolat Hakim-hakim Yahudi. Dan yang jelas, masalah asasi yang harus diwujudkan oleh organisasi ini ialah terwujudnya ambisi Freemasonry.

B’nai B’rith –sebagaimana sekte Yahudi lainnya– mungkin tidak menganut suatu paham geo-kultural, karena bangsa Yahudi secara umum tidak pernah berkuasa atas suatu negeri dan menguasai suatu wilayah geografis secara berarti dalam jangka waktu yang cukup lama. Tetapi mereka menganut paham kultural-keagamaan yang sangat dikotomis, yang membagi umat manusia atas diri mereka sendiri sebagai "Bangsa pengemban perjanjian (dengan Tuhan)" (B’nai B’rith - "The Children of the Covenant"), sedangkan semua manusia lain adalah "gentile" (pelayan), tidak saja dalam arti "bangsa" seperti makna menurut aslinya dalam bahasa Ibrani, tapi juga dalam isyaratnya yang bernada merendahkan bangsa-bangsa selain bangsa Yahudi. Mereka di masa Israel kuno memandang semua orang lain secara moral jahat dan kotor. Kaum Mormon mengoper pandangan itu untuk menyebut yang selain mereka sendiri sebagai "gentile". Di samping itu, usaha menguasai perekonomian merupakan plot lama yang terus dilaksanakan. Cara ini sebagaimana yang ditempuh oleh konspirasi Illuminati (Freemasonry). Amerika sendiri telah dipengaruhi oleh konspirasi Illuminati untuk plot "One World Government" atau yang diistilahkan juga "Tata Dunia Baru".

Ada empat elemen utama yang diarahkan oleh House Of Rothchilds (elite Freemasonry dan B’nai B’rith) dalam usaha untuk menguasai Amerika, yaitu:

Yang terpenting, pengendalian sistem moneter Amerika. Maka hal ini menjadi salah satu peluang yang diambil oleh Jacob Schiff untuk menguasai ekonomi Amerika.
Menemukan orang yang tepat, yang dengan membayar "sejumlah harga" ia mau menjadi pelayan bagi kepentingan konspirasi yang lebih besar. Selanjutnya orang tersebut didukung untuk menduduki posisi penting pada pemerintahan federal AS, Kongres, Mahkamah Agung, dan seluruh komponen birokrasi federal.
Menciptakan kelompok minoritas dengan memanfaatkan sentimen kesukubangsaan, dengan memisahkan antara kelompok kulit putih dan kulit hitam.
Mendukung sutu pergerakan yang bertujuan menghancurkan berbagai kepentingan keagamaan di A, terutama kepentingan Kristen.

Hal-hal di atas terutama berlangsung semenjak 1840-an dan sukses dijalankan semenjak akhir Perang Saudara AS hingga sekarang (sebagaimana yang dijelaskan oleh Myron Fagan).

Penyebaran dan Kawasan Pengaruhnya
B’nai B’rith didirikan di New York, kemudian tersebar ke hampir seluruh AS, Inggris, Jerman, dan Perancis. Pengaruh organisasi ini sangat kuat di negara-negara tersebut. Cabang-cabangnya hampir tersebar hingga Australia, Afrika, dan sebagian negara-negara Asia.

Di Mesir telah didirikan dua buah perkumpulan, yaitu Maghin David No. 436, yang Anggaran Dasarnya ditulis dalam bahasa Arab, dan Memont No. 365 yang Anggaran dasarnya ditulis dalam bahasa Jerman.

In Vettel’s wake, team mate Sebastien Bourdais was left on the grid as the race started behind the safety car because of the rain that started half an hour before the kick-off. But even without his wingman, Vettel never had a problem in this one. Kovalainen’s expected challenge never materialised, leaving the Finn sorely disappointed. Kubica’s single pit stop was timed to absolute perfection, as he was able to refuel and switch from Bridgestone’s extreme wets to normal wets at the same time. Both Vettel and Kovalainen stopped twice.

A long way behind them, Fernando Alonso brought his Renault home just ahead of Nick Heidfeld’s BMW Sauber, Felipe Massa’s Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren. They were covered by a handful of seconds.

Hamilton drove superbly in the wet opening stages, but was forced to make an unscheduled second stop to move to standard wet tyres and lacked crucial pace towards the end. With four laps left he and Red Bull’s Mark Webber touched wheels under braking for the first chicane, but both cars survived undamaged and the Australian took the final point for eighth place.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest lap but could not better ninth place ahead of Renault’s Nelson Piquet, Toyota’s Timo Glock, Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima, Toyota’s Jarno Trulli, Williams’ Nico Rosberg, Honda’s Jenson Button, Red Bull’s David Coulthard, Honda’s Rubens Barrichello and Bourdais.

The two Toyotas and Rosberg were well placed until they had to stop to switch to standard wet tyres, while Nakajima collided with Coulthard on the 51st lap in Curva Grande, forcing the Scot to pit for a new nose.

The sole retirement was Giancarlo Fisichella, who crashed his Force India after also hitting Coulthard on Lap 12.

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz’s deserved first F1 victory thus came from the team he put up for sale earlier in the season. It means Vettel is now ninth in the driver standings, while Toro Rosso edge ahead of Red Bull Racing in sixth.

At the top of the drivers’ table Hamilton now has a single point lead over Massa, 77 to 76, pending McLaren’s Belgian appeal. Kubica has 64 and Raikkonen 57. In the constructors’ championship McLaren close still further on Ferrari, with 129 points to the Scuderia’s 134.

Di bawah payung perusahaan Time Warner Communication yang dipimpin seorang Yahudi bernama Gerald Levin, Majalah mingguan Time, mencapai sirkulasi hampir 4,1 juta. Newsweek, di bawah orang Yahudi bernama Katherine Meyer Graham telah memiliki sirkulasi mencapai hampir 3,2 juta eksemplar.

Fu`ad bin Sayyid Abdurrahman ar-Rifa’i dalam bukunya Yahudi dalam Informasi dan Organisasi, menunjukkan bagaimana kaum Yahudi memperkuat pengaruhnya lewat dominasi kantor berita, media massa, perfilman, keuangan dan lembaga dunia. Kantor berita terbesar dunia, Reuters, dibangun keturunan Yahudi, Julius Reuters. Kantor berita besar lainnya, Associated Press, International News Service dan United Press International, juga dimiliki orang Yahudi. Bahkan, surat kabar yang tidak terlalu besar pun, seperti The Sunday Times, The Chicago Sun Times dan The City Magazine, tidak mereka lepaskan.

Selain media cetak, beberapa konglomerat Yahudi berhasil merambah dunia broadcasting. Di jalur ini ada American Broadcasting Companies (ABC), Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), National Broadcasting Company (NBC), dan Cable News Network (CNN). Dunia hiburan yang masih ada hubungan dengan media massa juga nggak dilepaskan dari kontrol Yahudi. Jajaran pengusaha top bisnis hiburan di Hollywood tercatat sebagai bagian dari jaringan media Yahudi. Sebut saja Perusahaan film Fox Company milik William Fox, Golden Company (Samuel Golden), Metro Company (Lewis Mayer), Warner & Bross Company (Harny Warner), serta Paramount Company milik Hod Dixon, merupakan perusahaan film yang punya pengaruh besar di bidangnya.

Bukan hanya itu, di AS hampir 90% pekerja film mulai dari sutradara, produser, editor, artis, dan krunya adalah orang-orang Yahudi. Luasnya keterlibatan orang-orang Yahudi di industri ini membuktikan bahwa mereka sangat mendominasi perfilman Amerika dan bahkan dunia.

Konglomerat hiburan terbesar saat ini seperti Walt Disney Company, dipimpin oleh seorang Yahudi bernama Michael Eisner (CEO), Disney memiliki beberapa anak perusahaan dibidang stasiun televisi. Misalnya Walt Disney Television, Touchstone Television, Buena Vista Television. Untuk film, Walt Disney memiliki Walt Disney Picture Group yang dikepalai oleh Joe Roth, seorang keturunan Yahudi. Termasuk juga Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, dan Caravan Pictures. Disney juga memiliki Miramax Films. Wah, wah, wah.

Sobat muda, jaringan mereka cukup kuat juga. Di bisnis penerbitan buku, tercatat ada tiga penerbit kaliber raksasa dan cukup berpengaruh; Random House, Simon & Schuster, dan Time Inc. Book Co. Semuanya dimiliki pemodal Yahudi. Pimpinan eksekutif Simon & Schuster, Richard Snyder dan ketuanya Jeremy Kaplan, keduanya orang Yahudi. Malah di luar penerbit yang tiga di atas, Western Publishing tercatat ada pada peringkat paling atas, yang menerbitkan buku-buku untuk anak-anak, dengan pangsa pasar yang dikuasainya 50 persen dari pangsa pasar buku untuk anak-anak yang ada di dunia. CEO Western Publishing adalah Richard Bernstein, seorang Yahudi.

Celakanya bagi kita, media massa di berbagai negara kerapkali mengambil media-media massa besar tersebut sebagai rujukan beritanya. Termasuk di negeri ini tentunya. Hasilnya, opini yang berkembang jadi seragam. Bener lho. Gimana nggak seragam, wong yang diambil dari sono kok. Ambil contoh, media cetak di negeri kita aja suka mencantumkan sumbernya, seperti dari Reuters, CNN, AP dan lain sebagainya. Emang sih nggak semuanya media massa dikuasai Yahudi. Tapi gaswatnya, justru yang besar dan berpengaruh yang dimiliki mereka. Jadi, mau nggak mau kudu nelan mentah-mentah informasi yang diberikan mereka. Dan inget lho, film-film yang ditayangkan di televisi or di layar lebar di seluruh dunia, juga nggak lepas dari muatan yang dipesan oleh kalangan Yahudi. Paling nggak, hal itu akan mempengaruhi penilaian kita dalam menerima informasi. Apalagi kemasannya begitu memikat.

Tak salah jika George Gerbner dalam bukunya Mass Media and Human Communication Theory (1967) menyebutkan, أ¢â‚¬إ“Mass Communication is the technologically and institutionally based production and distribution of the most broadly shared continous flow of messages in industrial societiesأ¢â‚¬? (Komunikasi massa adalah produksi dan distribusi yang berlandaskan teknologi dan lembaga dari arus pesan yang kontinyu serta paling luas dimiliki orang dalam masyarakat industri).

Media massa sebagai agent of change
Mc.Luhan, penulis buku Understanding Media: The Extensive of Man, menyebutkan bahwa media massa adalah perpanjangan alat indera kita. Yup, dengan media massa kita memperoleh informasi tentang benda, orang atau tempat yang belum pernah kita lihat atau belum pernah kita kunjungi secara langsung. Realitas yang ditampilkan media massa adalah realitas yang sudah diseleksi. Televisi memilih tokoh-tokoh tertentu untuk ditampilkan dan mengesampingkan tokoh yang lainnya. Surat kabar pun, melalui proses yang disebut أ¢â‚¬إ“gatekeepingأ¢â‚¬? lebih banyak menyajikan berbagai berita tentang أ¢â‚¬إ“darah dan dadaأ¢â‚¬? (blood and breast) dari pada tentang contoh dan teladan. Itu sebabnya, kita nggak bisa, atau bahkan nggak sempat untuk mengecek peristiwa-peristiwa yang disajikan media. Boleh dibilang, kita cenderung memperoleh informasi tersebut semata-mata berdasarkan pada apa yang dilaporkan media massa.

Televisi misalnya, kerap kali menyajikan tayangan kekerasan, dan itu membuat pemirsa televisi menganggap bahwa dunia ternyata lebih keras. Begitu pula ketika sebuah film ditonton, yang, biasanya dengan misi tertentu dari pembuatnya, akan memberikan kesan tersendiri bagi penontonnya. Film?آ Eraser misalnya, film laga yang dibintangi mantan binaragawan asal Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger أ¢â‚¬?menyisipkan pesan sekilasأ¢â‚¬â„¢ bahwa Hamas di Palestina adalah Teroris. Bisa diduga akibatnya, jika kemudian opini masyarakat tentang Hamas menjadi jelek. Belum lagi Film Schindler’s List besutan sutradara berdarah Yahudi, Steven Spielbergh, yang juga pernah menyutradarai film Jurassic Park,?آ berhasil memanipulasi perasaan masyarakat dunia. Lewat film tersebut, kebencian terhadap kaum Yahudi berubah menjadi empati dan simpati. Inilah kekuatan sebuah media massa. Dahsyat!

Kamu pernah nonton sekuelnya film James Bond, yang berjudul Tomorrow Never Die? Nah, kisah dalam film itu kian menegaskan bahwa media massa benar-benar sebagai agent of change, alias agen pengubah. Bahkan di sinilah perang informasi bisa diwujudkan. Di film itu, Cina dan Inggris hampir saja perang, karena surat kabar Tomorrow menurunkan laporan terjadinya penembakan kapal perang Inggris oleh pesawat tempur Cina dan sebaliknya. Padahal, semua itu direkayasa oleh Tomorrow. Selain tujuan bisnis, ia juga mempunyai misi bahwa media memang efektif juga untuk memicu ketegangan. Ujungnya, meraih keuntungan secara politis.

Jadi nggak heran juga jika majalah TIME, dalam situs internet time.com edisi 17 September 2002 menurunkan berita yang menghebohkan tentang pengakuan Omar al-Faruq mengenai adanya jaringan terorisme al-Qaidah di Indonesia. Pada waktu bersamaan, CNN.com edisi 17 September 2002 menurunkan dua berita sekaligus, yaitu tentang adanya gerakan Islam fundamentalis di Asia Tenggara untuk mendirikan أ¢â‚¬إ“Super Stateأ¢â‚¬? dan berita tentang rincian operasi al-Qaidah dalam rangka memperluas jaringannya di Asia Tenggara.

Bagaimana dengan tanggapan masyarakat? Ada yang percaya, tapi tentu ada juga yang menganggapnya bahwa berita itu adalah akal-akalannya pemerintah AS yang memiliki link kuat dengan media-media berpengaruh di dunia tersebut. Celakanya, penentu kebijakan di negeri seperti kerbau dicocok hidung, mau aja ngikutin pesan (baca: tekanan) dari AS via informasi tersebut yang emang lagi bernafsu dalam kampanye memerangi apa yang mereka sebut sebagai terorisme.

Dalam kondisi seperti ini, media memang menjadi corong untuk membangun dan membentuk opini. Gawatnya, jika opini tersebut sudah diseleksi (baca: diplintir) oleh pihak yang berkepentingan untuk mewujudkan keinginannya. Hasilnya, media massa telah berubah menjadi ancaman yang sangat mengerikan.

أ¢â‚¬?Tradisiأ¢â‚¬â„¢ mengubah persepsi berlaku juga dalam tataran dunia hiburan. Kita tahu betapa gencarnya rumah produksi di Hollywood yang rata-rata dikuasai Yahudi, telah memberikan gambaran yang buruk kepada kita, kaum muslimin. Kalangan Yahudi punya semboyan: أ¢â‚¬إ“Kita tidak sekadar memberikan pengaruh yang menentukan dalam sistem politik yang kita kehendaki serta kontrol terhadap pemerintah; kita juga melakukan kontrol terhadap alam pikiran dan jiwa anak-anak merekaأ¢â‚¬? (Henry Ford, Sr., أ¢â‚¬إ“The International Jew: The World Foremost Problemأ¢â‚¬?)

Perlukah media tandingan?
Hmmأ¢â‚¬آ¦ kalo begini ceritanya, genderang perang baru sudah ditabuh. Sekarang, saatnya perang opini. Tentunya, jika kita melihat fakta, pastinya bakalan keder duluan dengan hegemoni dari kartel opini Yahudi. Mereka ada di mana-mana, dan menyerang secara sistematis. Nyaris tak ada sasaran yang kelewat. Mulai dari pasar anak-anak, remaja, sampe dewasa. Lengkap. Dan harap diinget bahwa semuanya berpotensi untuk mengubah cara pandang dan penilaian kita terhadap perkembangan yang ada. Tentunya setelah mereka menyeleksi pesan apa yang diinginkan sesuai dengan kepentingannya sebelum disebar ke pembacanya dan pemirsanya.

Kalo setiap hari kita menelan mentah-mentah info yang disebar kartel opini Yahudi, maka nggak usah kaget kalo kita kemudian jadi terpengaruh dengan opini yang dikembangkan mereka. Sementara upaya untuk membendung kekuatan jaringan opini Yahudi nyaris kepayahan. Bukan apa-apa, media kita, Islam, jauh lebih sedikit dan kalah canggih ketimbang media yang dimiliki Yahudi. Tapi tentunya tidak melemahkan semangat kita untuk menandinginya. Kita justru tambah semangat.

Memang sih pengennya, atau idealnya kita punya juga media tandingan. Untuk mewujudkannya, bisa aja para konglomerat muslim menginvestasikan dananya untuk penerbitan media Islam. Memang bukan hal mudah, buktinya sampai sekarang para investor atau orang-orang Islam yang kaya mungkin kurang begitu peduli dengan urusan kayak begini. Mungkin juga karena mereka menganggap media Islam itu tidak menjanjikan keuntungan bagi mereka. Kalau itu permasalahannya, kan bisa dicari formula bacaan yang tepat dan juga manajemen yang profesional. Lagipula, untuk urusan dakwah bukankah keikhlasan dan keseriusan menjadi prioritas?

Kalo hal itu masih dirasa sulit juga, barangkali yang paling mungkin dilakukan dalam tataran solusi praktis adalah memilih dan memilah informasi. Namun hal ini pun nggak begitu mudah, kalo kita nggak punya filter. Apa filternya? Kita kudu mengetahui mana yang salah mana yang bener. Singkatnya begini deh, selalu merujuk kepada Islam. Dan tentunya ketika mendapat info, jangan langsung telen aja. Sebaliknya kudu selalu أ¢â‚¬?curigaأ¢â‚¬â„¢ terhadap info yang disebar media asing (baca; bukan Islam).

Memang sih, kalo pengen benar-benar optimal, yang harus kita lakukan adalah menggalang kekuatan bersama dari seluruh kaum muslimin di dunia ini untuk membangun kesadaran dalam menyatukan pikiran dan perasaan, serta aturan. Kapan dimulainya? Sekarang dong.?آ Jadi, mari ubah individu dengan melakukan perubahan terhadap masyarakat. Kita bangun kembali masyarakat Islam dalam sebuah negara yang akan mampu melawan seluruh hegemoni kekuatan asing; tidak saja Yahudi, tapi seluruh kekuatan yang menghalangi Islam bakalan dilibas.. bas..bas. ”A Self-Defeating War”

By George Soros -- The war on terror is a false metaphor that has led to counterproductive and self-defeating policies. Five years after 9/11, a misleading figure of speech applied literally has unleashed a real war fought on several fronts -- Iraq, Gaza, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Somalia -- a war that has killed thousands of innocent civilians and enraged millions around the world. Yet al Qaeda has not been subdued; a plot that could have claimed more victims than 9/11 has just been foiled by the vigilance of British intelligence.

Unfortunately, the "war on terror" metaphor was uncritically accepted by the American public as the obvious response to 9/11. It is now widely admitted that the invasion of Iraq was a blunder. But the war on terror remains the frame into which American policy has to fit. Most Democratic politicians subscribe to it for fear of being tagged as weak on defense.

What makes the war on terror self-defeating?

• First, war by its very nature creates innocent victims. A war waged against terrorists is even more likely to claim innocent victims because terrorists tend to keep their whereabouts hidden. The deaths, injuries and humiliation of civilians generate rage and resentment among their families and communities that in turn serves to build support for terrorists.

• Second, terrorism is an abstraction. It lumps together all political movements that use terrorist tactics. Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Sunni insurrection and the Mahdi army in Iraq are very different forces, but President Bush's global war on terror prevents us from differentiating between them and dealing with them accordingly. It inhibits much-needed negotiations with Iran and Syria because they are states that support terrorist groups.

• Third, the war on terror emphasizes military action while most territorial conflicts require political solutions. And, as the British have shown, al Qaeda is best dealt with by good intelligence. The war on terror increases the terrorist threat and makes the task of the intelligence agencies more difficult. Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri are still at large; we need to focus on finding them, and preventing attacks like the one foiled in England.

• Fourth, the war on terror drives a wedge between "us" and "them." We are innocent victims. They are perpetrators. But we fail to notice that we also become perpetrators in the process; the rest of the world, however, does notice. That is how such a wide gap has arisen between America and much of the world.

Taken together, these four factors ensure that the war on terror cannot be won. An endless war waged against an unseen enemy is doing great damage to our power and prestige abroad and to our open society at home. It has led to a dangerous extension of executive powers; it has tarnished our adherence to universal human rights; it has inhibited the critical process that is at the heart of an open society; and it has cost a lot of money. Most importantly, it has diverted attention from other urgent tasks that require American leadership, such as finishing the job we so correctly began in Afghanistan, addressing the looming global energy crisis, and dealing with nuclear proliferation.

With American influence at low ebb, the world is in danger of sliding into a vicious circle of escalating violence. We can escape it only if we Americans repudiate the war on terror as a false metaphor. If we persevere on the wrong course, the situation will continue to deteriorate. It is not our will that is being tested, but our understanding of reality. It is painful to admit that our current predicaments are brought about by our own misconceptions. However, not admitting it is bound to prove even more painful in the long run. The strength of an open society lies in its ability to recognize and correct its mistakes. This is the test that confronts us.

The recent compromise struck between the Treasury and Democrats in Congress on the fate of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored mortgage guarantors, constitutes the worst of all possible worlds. The Treasury offered a blank cheque to come to the rescue, if necessary, but the managements of both companies were kept in place. They know that their survival depends on not drawing on that blank cheque. They will therefore do everything in their power to reduce the need for any new equity capital that would be dilutive. In short, as privately owned but undercapitalised financial institutions, the GSEs cannot fulfil their stated mission of providing stability, liquidity and affordability to the nation’s housing finance system.

In presentations to investors, which followed big quarterly losses, the GSEs said they would curtail purchases of mortgages and might shrink their holdings to preserve capital. They highlighted that fees from their insurance guarantee business had nearly doubled. They also improved the quality of new loans by focusing on borrowers with higher-quality credit, who put down greater down payments. This means that the GSEs have significantly increased the cost of mortgages and tightened lending standards.

The problems in the banking system have left the two GSEs as the only game in town in the mortgage market. Their market share of new mortgages has doubled over the past year and is now close to 80 per cent. Much of the balance is accounted for by the Federal Housing Administration, a fully guaranteed government agency. As the two companies fight for survival and try to reduce their need for new capital, the availability and cost of mortgages in the US suffer. Coming at a time when the supply of houses is swollen by a rising tide of foreclosures, this is a recipe for disaster. House prices have already fallen sharply and will continue to fall unless mortgages are made available on more favourable terms to a broader group of people.

This compromise, or stalemate, practically ensures that house prices will overshoot on the downside. That, in turn, renders the policies of the GSEs self-defeating as lower house prices increase their losses and push them further into insolvency. The GSE crisis has merely been postponed, at a cost of making the housing crisis more severe.

Confidence in GSE-backed bonds has been shaken. The stocks remain under pressure. Markets are forcing officials to come up with a better solution. We need to recognise that the business model of the GSEs is fatally flawed. They are public/private partnerships in which the risks are borne by the public sector while profits accrue to the private sector: management and shareholders. The companies have been plagued by accounting problems and other irregularities; their managements have spent enormous sums lobbying Capitol Hill. This is not a business model that deserves to be perpetuated.

Fortunately, alternatives are available. Hank Paulson, the Treasury secretary, has suggested the use of covered bonds, a mortgage-financing vehicle popular in Europe. I would recommend the system of mortgage credit used in Denmark, where loan-to-value ratios and underwriting standards are strictly enforced by a single, strong regulator. These mortgages are transformed into instantly tradable bonds. Cover for the bonds is provided by both the mortgages and the credit of the financial institutions issuing them. The mortgages remain on the balance sheets of the issuers, eliminating the moral hazard inherent in the US system, which is based on earning fees from selling them on to the market.

The standardisation of mortgages in the Danish system promotes transparency and liquidity. Householders can prepay their mortgages at any time by buying the bonds. Since house values and bond prices tend to move in unison this arrangement reduces the danger of householders’ equity falling into negative territory. For the issuing banks, owning these bonds carries lower capital requirements so the bonds sell at a premium to ordinary covered bonds. This system has survived and provided affordable home mortgages since its creation shortly after the great Copenhagen fire of 1795.

I pioneered the introduction of the Danish system in Mexico with the support of Paul O’Neill, when he was Treasury secretary. With modification, it offers a long-term solution to providing affordable mortgages in the US.
